Porn Consumption and Twelve (or so) Alarming Trends, Pt. 2

Did you know that 4,599,000,000 hours of porn were watched last year alone.

That number is four billion, five hundred and ninety-nine million hours of porn viewed last year.

Let’s reflect on that number for a few minutes.

There are a total of 8,760 hours in a year.  That’s less than ten thousand. If one person were to watch that much porn, over a life time, they would require a life expectancy of somewhere in the five century range.…

A Dozen (or so) Alarming Trends Directly Related to Porn Consumption.

In Addictions, Consumption, Freedom from Porn, Marriage, Men Against Porn, Pornography, Sex and Violence by BizgaineyLeave a Comment

If statistics related to porn consumption are correct, then it’s safe to assume that close to eight out of ten men view porn on a consistent basis.

If they are, as some believe, inflated, then it’s still safe to assume that somewhere between six out of ten men view porn consistently.

By consistent, I mean an average of several times a month.

That’s a pretty conservative estimation.  Admittedly, stats on viewing are difficult to determine, since viewing habits are secretly kept and rarely shared.  As one who has viewed porn …

Social Media: You Child is Spending NINE Hours a Day On It!

Social media apps are saturated with porn.  Porn is not, however, the only problem.  The problems associated with social media, particularly among the generation raised with unfettered access to social media, range from lack of trust to a loss of hope.

Note the lament of a teenager raised in the digital age.  While her voice is her own, it’s one familiar to and representative of so many more:

“I have terrible trust issues.  Ever since middle school and …

In Addictions, Parenting, Pornography, Sex and Violence by BizgaineyLeave a Comment

Parenting is tough work.

Particularly these days.

Parents today are forced to raise children who are exposed multiple levels of input at ages early than ever before.

For example, most parents are likely unaware of what happened during the years of 2008 – 2011 regarding pornographic content available to tweens.

Do you remember what you were doing between the years of 2008 – 2011?

Not sure?

Pornography and Preteens or Tweens

But I can tell you what Pornographers were doing.  They were trapping our preteens and tweens.…

You may, in fact, totally check out.

Indeed, if you’ve been trolling the web for porn …

Does One Bad Moment Make Me a Monster?

In Addictions, Brokenness, Formation, Freedom, Freedom from Porn, Habits, Pornography, Technology by BizgaineyLeave a Comment

During the early days of my journey out of porn addiction, I remember a time when I had been porn-free for about 90 days (yes, I numbered freedom by days, not months).  It was, at that time, the longest I had ever gone without clicking a website, watching a video, or trying to get porn in any form I could.

Then one day I crashed, badly.  All the signs were there; I just didn’t see them.  Either that or I simply refused to take note of them.

The triggers were:…

Triggers and Traps: The Trap Day

I know the term Trap Day is an unfamiliar one.  It is, in fact, not one I have heard of anywhere else.  That’s because it’s one that is birthed from my personal journey out of porn addiction and into a porn-free life.  In my experience the Trap Day is a day of ongoing struggle with porn’s pull.  It’s a day when one is particularly susceptible to porn and its destructive power of persuasion.

The Trap Day is as unexpected as it is unavoidable.

The …

Triggers and Traps: The Tempting Situation

As I write this post on preparing for and resisting The Tempting Situation, I am sitting in a Starbucks drinking my customary Grande Bold Coffee, black.

Here is what I can tell you based on this one morning in Starbucks: For those of us who are trying to live a porn-free life, or who are trying to maintain a porn-free life, temptations abound, and they are everywhere.

We will, at some point, be tempted or face a Tempting Situation, in which our …

Recognizing Triggers and Traps in Overcoming Porn Addiction, Part 2

In Addictions, Freedom from Porn, Fully Awake, Men Against Porn, Pornography by BizgaineyLeave a Comment

In my last post, I wrote about the importance of identifying the Trying Season.

The Trying Season is that moment or season of life where stress grows and relief is needed.  Porn exploits those times of our life and extracts our dignity in the process.

Today I am going to consider another trigger we need to be aware of in our fight against porn.  It is,

The Teasing Sensation.

Life is full of teasers.  A teaser is, according to Merriam-Webster, “something that is done, offered, or shown to make
