Imagine Yourself in the Presence of the King

Imagine yourself in the presence of the King of Creation.

Imagine the majestic environment – the rarefied air, trees bustling with beauty and dignity – an atmosphere encased in a feeling of delight and joy!

Imagine sinking your teeth into a delectable piece of fruit, soaked with the fullness of life and the freshness of His touch.

Just beyond the horizon, you spy a crowd of animals: healthy and vibrant, on glorious display – marching in rhythm – beneath the base of …

The Long Journey Home: 2016’s Desires, Part 2!

In Desire, Discipleship, Formation, Prayer, Purpose and Meaning by BizgaineyLeave a Comment

“But the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them.”

The above quote is the way C.S. Lewis begins the closing pages of his final book in the Chronicles of Narnia Series, The Last Battle.  The Last Battle is my favorite of the Narnia series!  Lewis goes on to say – in painting his picture of heaven,  “And for us this is the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. …

Advent – Unearthing and Aiming Desire as We Wait on and Watch for Him!

In Advent, Consumption, Desire, Discipleship, Formation by Bizgainey1 Comment

C.S. Lewis, in Mere Christianity, suggests that we are a people of deep and unending desire (https://www.cslewis.com/us).  He further states that our unending quest for satisfaction reveals a deeper and often confounding truth about what it means to be human; what it means to be whole!

“If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does not prove that the universe is a…

Why Are We Drawn To Vampires?

In Culture, Discipleship, Twilight, Vampires by Bizgainey3 Comments

For many, Twilight is less about a time of day and more about vampires. From Dracula to Bella Swan, millions are fascinated with vampires.  We are drawn to zombies too for that matter.

Indeed, we are captivated by bloodsuckers.

According to The-Numbers.com, a website that follows the movie industry, Twilight movies grossed over 3 billion dollars world wide (http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/franchise/Twilight).

Domestic box office receipts tallied over 1 billion alone.  Yes, you read that right!  Over 3 billion dollars globally; over 1 billion domestically.

This make me wonder . . .

Why …

Four Reasons Why I Want A ‘Sloppy Wet Kiss’ or No Kiss at All!

In Christian Leadership, Discipleship, Worship by Bizgainey8 Comments

One of my favorite modern worship songs is called How He Loves Us (here, https://youtu.be/TCunuL58odQ?list=RDTCunuL58odQ).  Written by John Mark McMillian, the version I prefer is performed by the David Crowder Band.

The version I prefer no longer exists. Marched to the unimaginative court of the Christian judge and jury, it has been – tragically – executed. The execution was held in the basketball hooped auditoriums and multipurpose rooms throughout the land; otherwise known as the Christian Worship Center.

The criminal in this shameless execution is one phrase,

Heaven meets earth

The Boys of Summer and The Shape of Our Soul!

In Contemplation, Discipleship, Habits, Spiritual Formation by Bizgainey3 Comments

The longer I live, the more I believe the statement pictured above. What we do shapes who we become. Experience proves this to be true time and time again. Most of us believe that our habits or practices reveal what’s in our heart. That may be true, but it fails to acknowledge that our habits also shape our heart!

Baseball season is in full swing, and I love it! I believe baseball is the most aesthetic of all sports. There is an internal – intrinsic – beauty to the rhythm …

What if?

In Spiritual Formation, Uncategorized by BizgaineyLeave a Comment

There are moments, even seasons, in my life when my desire feels ravenous.  As if I am simply never satisfied.  Ever craving bigger, better, more!  I use the term ravenous to mean intensely eager for satisfaction or gratification.  I have utilized much of my blog space to discuss and/consider the prevalence of desire in the human soul.

We can all probably agree, at least on some level, that much of our decisions are based on, and  many of our daydreams are lost in desire.  It’s rare that I find myself …

aha ~ I Am An Ever Firing Furnace of Desire!

“In the torment of the insufficiency of everything attainable we eventually learn that here, in this life, all symphonies remain unfinished.”~Karl Rahner

In his wonderful book, Against An Infinite Horizon, Ron Rolheiser opens with this quote from Rahner. A failure to comprehend the truth behind this quote is to risk a life lost to reckless wandering: an unending and exhausting quest for the next person, place or possibility to satisfy the hunger in our soul. To understand this, however, is to be one who, at last, has come to realize …
